Taking a Long Drive

mamimalista blog road trip

Today I took a drive that lasted six hours. Is it because I love driving? Actually I don’t mind driving it is a little therapeutic for me. There was a purpose to my driving though. My mom and I were meeting at a Cracker Barrel in Ft. Wayne, IN to switch cars. She is keeping our three older kids for the weekend so Andrew and I can have a little getaway!

We are still bringing Makana with us but, as most parents know, after having four kids bringing only one with you feels like you are not bringing any of them, and plus she is so sweet.

During my drive I had a lot of time to think. I was very surprised by my kids. They were so quiet for the whole drive (they were only with me for the first three hours.) They didn’t even ask to watch a movie. I took it as a gift from God haha.

The last 30 minutes of the drive before we arrived at Cracker Barrel I started to feel very impatient. I was ready to get out of the car and stretch my legs. There were three semis in front of me on a two lane road. I really wanted to pass them but I knew I couldn’t make it before a car coming from the opposite direction descended upon me…so I waited.

Waiting is so hard. Waiting for something that you can’t see or touch is even harder.

This type of waiting not only takes patience, it takes faith and hope.

Two small words that are so powerful and supernatural.

Motherhood requires this type of waiting. Waiting for the gift of conception, or maybe waiting to get a call from your adoption agency. Waiting to see how God will provide today, or waiting for his healing. Waiting for God’s timing in a relationship, or waiting for a better day tomorrow.

If you are in a season of waiting, you are not alone, I am also waiting. I want to share with you a part of a song that I first heard while watching one of my friends go through her season of waiting.

“Slow down, take time, breathe in.
He said He’d reveal what’s to come
The thoughts in his mind, always higher than mine
He’ll reveal all to come

Take courage my heart
Stay steadfast my soul
He’s in the waiting,
He’s in the waiting

Hold on to your hope
As your triumph unfolds
He’s never failing,
He’s never failing”

Here is the link to the whole song if you want to listens to it: Take Courage
